Steven Blaine Neal, 60, passed into the arms of our Lord on February 26, 2015.  He was born June 14, 1954 in Covington, Kentucky to Charles Blaine Neal and Dorothy (Diel) Neal.  Graduating with honors from Indiana University, Steve earned his B.S. degree in Biology with a concentration in Genetics.  He then went on to do post graduate studies at the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University.   After completing genetic research at the Indiana School of Medicine, Steve began a successful 30 year career with Eli Lilly and Company.  He worked in multiple capacities supporting Toxicology, Quality Assurance, Neuroscience, and Biotechnology.   Before his retirement, he served as the Chief Operating Officer for Lilly Research Laboratories.   Throughout his career in all roles, Steve was well known for his strong work ethic, high standards and respect for people.

On August 5, 1978, Steve married his high school sweetheart, Dawn (Akers) and together they restored their 160 year old historic landmark home.  They enjoyed extensive travel.   In addition, Steve’s passions included photography, genealogy, and master gardening.  He volunteered as a member of the School of Science Dean’s Advisory Council and the Millersville at Fall Creek Valley Board of Directors.

Steve was a loving husband, son and brother and a doting uncle.   In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Dorothy, his brother Paul (Hope), 7 nieces and nephews, 4 great nieces, and 5 great nephews.   Steve was preceded in death by his father.  Steve will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation and service will take place Tuesday, March 3rd at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W 86th St., Indianapolis, IN.   Visitation will be from 9:30 to noon and a service will immediately follow with a reception at the conclusion of the service.   Steve was part of a master gardening team who are responsible for maintaining the grounds of The Benjamin Harrison Presidential site in Indianapolis.   In honor of Steve’s service and love for this volunteer activity, memorial contributions can be made to The Benjamin Harrison Presidential site and will benefit the maintenance of these beautiful grounds.

My Mom (Annette) was so very fond of you both. Since her passing, when I pray, I send a message to her and she delivers it to God. I am saying Mommy prayers for you and those around you!

I am so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. When I joined Lilly Greenfield 30 yrs ago Steve was one of the first people to stop by and chat. He was truly a kind and caring man.

    Dawn,
I am so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. What a wonderful person he was – always had a smile and time for people. I worked with him throughout my career in Toxicology – what a contagious laugh he had too……I can hear it now as I remember him and what a great mentor he was to many. My thoughts and prayers are you with you and your families.
